LandscaperOutlet.com once again had another successful installation. We installed the Three Tier Pagoda Cast Stone Concrete Outdoor Garden Fountain at another customers residence. This fountain on a difficulty level to set up was easy. The hardest part was lifting the concrete pool on to the four leg pedestal. We had three guys out on this install and it took us 2 hours from start to finish.
This particular fountain was very easy to level out, due to it's pedestal base. The base is only 24 inches long by 24 inches wide, making it real easy to prep the ground. We started by digging out the dirt and getting it as level as we can. Once the ground was level, we laid down one bag of crushed gravel, and spread it throughout the area in which the pedestal is placed. We checked again to make sure that the ground was level after laying down the gravel.
With the ground level, we were ready to place the pedestal. With the pedestal in place, we checked to make sure that the pedestal was level. If the pedestal is not level, you can level it out by lifting each side, one at a time, and placing the crushed gravel under each leg, until level. Once you have the pedestal level, you can place the pool on top. This was the hardest part of the installation. You want to make sure that you have at least 3 men to lift the pool and place it on the pedestal. If you try to do it with 2 men, you are risking that you may hit the pedestal, causing it to move, and become un-level. So, make sure you have plenty of man power to place the pool.
Now that the pool is in place, you can now start by adding each tier, one at a time. Level out each tier before placing the next. The pump for this specific fountain, sits in the pump housing located in the center of the pool. The hose connected to the pump housing recirculates the water out of the top of the fountain. Each tier has a hole through the center, to pass the hose through, all the way to the top. Make sure you have two people lifting the tier with the third person passing the hose through the center of each tier. Again make sure you level out each tier before placing the next. If the tiers are not level your fountain will not run properly. If the tier needs to be leveled, you can do so with the supplied shims.
All the tiers are now in place, so now it is time to fill the pool with water. Make sure that the pool is filled with water before powering the pump. If you run the pump with out any water, it will over heat and blow out. Once the pool is filled with water you can start the pump. The first problem we encountered was too much pressure coming out of the top of the fountain, and because of this there was a lot of splashing. A fountain that is being run with a lot of splash will lose a lot of water, causing you to constantly fill the fountain with water. To avoid this problem a re-stricter clamp is used on the recirculating hose, that is coming off the pump. This particular fountain is designed to slowly drip water down each tier, so we had to restrict the water being recirculated by adding the re-stricter clamp to the hose, as close to the pump as we can. Once we had the water restricted properly, and the water was flowing properly, our job was complete.
